Our Core Values
Intimacy With God Based on Regular Personal Devotion:
We encourage a lifestyle of consistent and intense prayer, study of the bible and cultivation of the presence of the Holy Spirit. Each believer must fulfill the duties of their office as priests by offering daily sacrifices of prayer and study of the word, and thereby cultivate an appreciation of how the Holy Spirit communicates with them personally. In essence, members of The Friends of God Fellowship are required to have regular Divine Encounters. Ex 19:3-6; 1Thess5:17; Col 3:16
Primary Submission To God, Secondary Submission to Leaders:
Based on their intimacy with God, we teach each individual to have confidence in their independent access to God through Christ, and hence live victoriously over sin, sickness and poverty. We discourage unhealthy dependence on leaders or other believers. Rev 1:6; 1Pet4:10&11; Rom 8:14, Heb 13:17
We provide practical support to each individual to achieve his/her ultimate potential – spiritual, economic, social and cultural. Gal6:10; 2 Thess3:10
More importantly, we believe that the Holy Spirit is a vital help for the Christian in his daily endeavors – at home, at work, amongst friends etc. We believe that church work and church activity is critical and vital, but that the most important and significant part of ministry is for the saints to be effective in demonstrating the character and the power of the Holy Spirit in daily living: at home, work, amongst friends, at meetings with colleagues, kith and kin etc.
The injunction in Mark 16:15 “And then he told them, “You are to go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere.” is for the Christian to make Christ relevant at their duty posts which include:
- Masses’ Emancipation and Poverty Reduction
- Finance & Banking
- Science & Technology
- Medicine & Pharmacy
- Music & Entertainment
- Advertising & Media
- Police, Customs and major seats of corruption
To do this, the believer should be taught and equipped to see the church not as the primary place of demonstration of God’s character and power, but a place for training and equipping. The primary place of God’s activity s is in family, business, science & technology, education, medicine & pharmacy, entertainment & sports, and government. The church is like a gas station, cars don’t function in the gas station but out there on the road. But the gas station is important otherwise the cars will be out of power. We thus teach believers to:
- Live in continual communion with the Holy Spirit in their daily endeavor
- Learn the important principles for activating the presence of the Holy Spirit in their daily endeavors
- Exercise the gifts of the Holy Spirit in their daily affairs and thus demonstrate his power.
Scriptural Church Government:
We practice accurate church government principles: plurality of eldership, accountability and mutual submission, financial transparency etc 1Pet 5:1-4; 2Cor 8:16-21
We reach out to the lost seeking to get them to accept Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour placing emphasis on people groups and places where the gospel is most needed. We emphasise “conversion growth” – growth from new converts rather than “transfer growth” – growth from change of churches. Mk 16:15; 2Cor 10:13-16
Co-operation With Other Churches:
We actively promote Christ above our denomination, and seek to work in unity with other denominations Eph 4:4-6 “We are all parts of one body, we have the same Spirit, and we have all been called to the same glorious future. 5 For us there is only one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 and we all have the same God and Father who is over us all and in us all, and living through every part of us.”TLB
Co-operation With Para-Church Ministries:
We actively support para-church organisations Eph4:4-6
We tangibly make society a better place to live in through appropriate social, economic and political interventions…..Mt5:13-16, Mt25:34-40.
